Ann Marie Whitton, is a versatile multidisciplinary artist with over thirty years of experience whose pieces can be found in international collections and prestigious galleries. Her current exhibition contrasts vibrant watercolour illustrations of St Albans with textured palette knife paintings of Penzance seascapes, showcasing her masterful ability to capture the essence of both urban and coastal landscapes through distinct artistic approaches.

Ann Marie Whitton | Artist Statement

I am a multidisciplinary artist, which means I draw, paint, print make, do pottery, create small sculptures from recycled materials, and have fun making short art films for YouTube.

My inspiration comes from the land, sea and sky. I love to travel around Britain collecting drawings and photographs of amazing buildings and places I visit. I then bring back my findings, to create new art pieces in my studio and workshop. Sculpting is my recent passion, creating small copper shed shapes from recycled materials. These sculptures have appeared in many shows and galleries.

I have over thirty years of teaching art to all ages. At present, I am running Printmaking workshops for the St Albans Art Society.

My art displayed at Trestle is about my home town St Albans complimented with seascapes of Penzance, Cornwall. I love to paint with watercolour paints and draw with modern day Sharpie pens, creating an illustration full of colour, which reflects the vibrancy of my home town. In contrast, my Penzance images are acrylic paintings drawn with a palette knife which makes a different mark on the paper surface. My focus has been a ‘close up view of the sea’ in which I can expose the colours and textures of the water by manipulating the paint.

I love the juxtaposition between the two styles.

My art pieces can be found in many UK and International collections.

I have exhibited at The Brooklyn Art Library, New York, The Tremenheere Gallery, Cornwall, Rapture, Tremenheere Gallery, Cornwall, The Mall Galleries, London, Cromer Artspace Open 2024, Letchworth Open 2024, St Albans Art Society, Herts Open Studios, The Art of Norwich, St Margarets Church, Norwich, Stevenage Museum, St Albans Museum and the University of Hertfordshire.
